Job Summary:
 
The Associate Business Analyst applies analytical and communication skills to conduct and coordinate routine reviews of algorithms run to surveil the market.  The incumbent will assist, with supervision, Market Regulation Technology staff in order to assure the timely review and completion of routine Systematic Surveillance Reviews.  The analyst will be expected to identify, research, and analyze industry-related matters, and is responsible for drafting and communicating impact assessments and other materials in support of the work of Market Regulation Technology.  The Analyst also reviews regulatory rule filings and conducts research regarding industry changes and relays their impacts to both Technology and Market Regulation staff.
 
Essential Job Functions:

  • Conducts routine reviews of algorithms that detect possible violations of the relevant rules and regulations enforced by FINRA.
  • Responsible for coordinating and tracking all Systematic Surveillance Reviews in support of Market Regulation Technology, including coordination with Market Regulation and other FINRA staff to ensure timely completion of reviews.
  • Compiles and organizes information from a variety of sources to be used in the review of algorithms. 
  • Routinely analyzes rule filings and conducts independent research of industry events in the area of primary responsibility for indications of potential upcoming changes to algorithms. 
  • Develops a thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle and relevant rules and regulations enforced by FINRA.
  • Presents findings (orally and in writing) to management and other constituents in an organized, concise and timely fashion. 
  • Interfaces with members, peers, management and others and provides excellent internal/external customer service in specialized area of regulatory responsibility.
  • Confers with senior staff and subject matter experts for guidance on complex issues. 

Education/Experience Requirements:
 
Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, or Business or equivalent work experience demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Competence working with the full suite of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong research skills. 
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills.
