The Estimator in this role will craft accurate and punctual proposals and estimates for both public and private sector construction projects, ensuring the client stands out as a responsive bidder.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Analyze and compile estimate data affecting labor, materials, equipment, and location for accurate estimates.
- Review project drawings, specifications, and site conditions, incorporating field input into estimates.
- Explore alternative solutions and construction methods to enhance bid competitiveness.
- Identify suitable public and private projects for bidding.
- Cultivate positive business relationships to expand bid opportunities locally and regionally.
- Negotiate pricing with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and trucking vendors to manage construction costs.
- Raise queries (RFIs) as needed during bidding.
- Verify quantities for accuracy in estimates.
- Utilize advanced mathematical reasoning for precise cost calculations.
- Assess bidding risks and strategies, presenting estimates for review.
- Reference past cost data for estimating checks.
- Attend site visits and pre-construction meetings as required.
- Prepare bid documents for timely submission.
- Analyze market competition and liaise with stakeholders to maintain competitiveness.
- Develop post-bid packages for operational use.
- Communicate bid details to field operations during handoff meetings.
- Support Project Managers in cost control and bid integrity.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Architecture, or equivalent experience.
Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Familiarity with AGTEK and Blue-Beam Take-off, Primavera Scheduling software.
- Advanced knowledge of Estimating software (preferably HCSS - Heavy Bid).
- Strong grasp of civil engineering and construction principles.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Thorough understanding of agency (U)DBE requirements.
