IT Product Design Engineer 3 (UX Designer)

Lehi, Utah or Remote

12-24 month contract

Job Summary:

To support FamilySearch's long-term strategy to help everyone find and connect to their family, we are looking for a UX designer to join our Asia Pacific team to help Asian users find historical information about their ancestors and relatives. You will conduct user research to deeply understand the Asian culture, historical documents, user needs, motivations, and obstacles. You will identify opportunities and solutions that solve user problems. You will work closely with a product manager and developers as you communicate ideas through workflows, wire frames, interactions, and prototypes, in an iterative agile environment.

Project Deliverables:

  • Final delivery and updates to the Korean Logged-out Homepage Experience
  • Designing of the following in-country logged out pages and any associated designs pertaining to the delivery for the following countries:
    • Philippines
    • India
    • Thailand
    • Cambodia
    • Vietnam
    • Indonesia
    • Malaysia
    • Mongolia
    • Korea
    • Japan
    • Taiwan
    • Australia
    • New Zealand
    • Tonga
    • Samoa
    • Papua New Guinea
    • Design Logged-in homepages for the same countries as above.
    • Design and develop Discovery and Surname experiences for same countries as above.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct user research (contextual inquiry, user interviews, usability testing, etc.) with other product design engineers and a product manager to make thoughtful, informed design decisions the FamilySearch search experience.
  • Proactively share your learning with your cross-functional team about the problems you observe and how changes will impact the direction of the team.
  • Create user workflows, diagrams, wire frames, mockups, and prototypes to visualize and communicate important behaviors and interactions.
  • Understand problems and collaborate with others about how to solve those problems. Articulate actionable solutions to the problems to stakeholders so they clearly understand.
  • Work closely with other designers and with one or more experience (product) managers to implement designs.
  • Collaborate and critique your own work and the work of others throughout the organization to ensure a consistent user experience.
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce quality work without supervision.
Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent professional experience
Work Experience:
  • 4 years of relevant professional experience
Required Skills:
  • Some of the design principles we look for that the designer understands and shows this knowledge of in their designs are:
    • Typography
    • Layout
    • Color
    • Hierarchy
    • Scale
    • We also like to see process of how the designer solved the problem
  • Advanced knowledge in applicable technical software, systems, and functions
  • Understanding of solid design principles, user flows and being able to execute high quality designs
  • Prototyping skills (Figma, AdobeXD, etc.)
  • Ability to test and quickly iterate designs
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills
  • Experienced in working with agile teams
Bonus Skills:
  • Experience with Asia is not a requirement, but a huge benefit
  • General interest and actively engaged in family history work and familiar with FamilySearch.org
  • Familiar with Asia/Pacific culture and design practices
Worthiness Qualifications:

Must be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and currently temple worthy.
