Job Description:

The Product Owner is the chief evangelist and advocate for the application(s) and is responsible for marketing its/their value to business lines, and for supporting operations in the usage of the application. They will collect user feedback, stakeholder requirements and uses this information to create a backlog of work and prioritize it based on value, criticality, and importance. The PO creates a vision for the future development of the software and uses this vision to build and maintain a product roadmap to communicate future functionality and delivery timelines to stakeholders and users. The PO works closely with the software development team to build, test, and deliver the functionality according to the roadmap. This position will be responsible for administration, functionality and growth of specific operational applications, as assigned. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate examples of software they have managed, show roadmaps they are maintaining, demonstrate deep understanding of software development process and working with a team, convey a solid understanding of data analytics and data visualizations, etc.

Responsibilities:

The Product Owner's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Exercises judgment in determining the priority of the backlog (bugs, new functionality and enhancements, etc.) and maintains it constantly
  • Earns the trust of end users and collects their feedback for app development and support
  • Leads team in gathering requirements from end users, operation leaders, and business leaders
  • Builds and strengthens relationships of trust with stakeholders, operation leaders, and business leaders
  • Leads team effort to define the user stories for new functionality, based on the requirements
  • Assists UI/UX in building wireframes, mockups and prototypes of new functionality as needed
  • Works with the development team (internal or external) to determine estimates for tasks
  • Determines product release dates based on the estimates for sprints
  • Participates in daily Scrums
  • Provides daily support and direction as necessary to the development team
  • Regularly solicit feedback from end users (user voice), operation leadership and business leadership for your applications and their feedback on how you are managing the application
  • Coordinates and manages multiple projects, timelines and releases
  • Identify inconsistencies within data and processes, and helps identify solutions for same
  • Plans smooth implementation of new applications or application updates. Coordinates the implementation plans with operational site managers and other needed team members. Leads the successful implementation and executes the plan through thorough and frequent communication. As part of this process, identifies training needs and leads effort to create training material and facilitate training at the operational / user level.
  • Provides product related user support and user manual documentation and keeps it current
  • Defines Acceptance Criteria and coordinates a smooth QA process with internal and/or external development teams, and helps with the testing process as needed
  • Facilitates with QA team a User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process with key power users and executes this process
  • Garners buy-in across the Company for the product(s) and evangelizes their value, benefit and use. Part of this process involves performing product demos to key parties
  • Perform market research to determine market needs and adjust product roadmap accordingly, and evaluate competitive offerings

Requirements:

  • BA in Business Management, Information Technology, or related field or equivalent work experience
  • The successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years experience as a Product Owner/Manager in software development, including mobile applications
  • Demonstrates experience with and understanding of Agile methodology and the Scrum framework and is committed to adhering to same
  • The successful candidate is a driven, self-starter who can manage him/herself
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Experience with large, complex software projects spanning multiple systems
  • Effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with development tools for managing application requirements, epics, user stories, roadmaps, and backlogs, such as Jira, Aha!, etc.
  • Demonstrates ability to build wireframes, mockups, and prototypes (graphic design experience not required but is helpful)
  • Understanding of and experience in creating applications that have extensive data visualizations / reporting dashboards to help business users more quickly and easily interpret data
  • The ability to use data analytics effectively to help elevate operation performance. This includes familiarity with the data available, knowledge of the goals of the business unit and creative approaches to using data
  • Technical writing capabilities in the translation of end user, management and customer requirements
  • Experiencing leading a team is a plus
