QA Engineer 5 (Auto)

12-24 month contract

Riverton, Utah

We are looking for a contract, QA Engineer with a passion for and experience in web service testing and Quality Assurance.The Enterprise Web Services team at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is tackling some of the most challenging problems in technology today.

Our team is responsible for the architecture and development of enterprise web services that reduce redundancy, lower costs, accelerate solution development, enhance application integration, and maximize our ability as a Church to fulfill our sacred mission.We create world-class web services that service the mobile and web applications that you are probably already using, and we do it in a way that lets people administer less and minister more.


We are looking for a strong QA Engineer to design and implement test suites and assure quality for the set of services. You need good communication skills as you interact and work with the developers and other teams to understand the business needs, User Stories, and Use Cases in various domains. The QA Engineer designs the test approach, breaks down work assignments, estimates task completion time, and fulfills these assignments within the timeframe established. The QA Engineer must deliver a tested quality solution that meets or exceeds the requirements of the customer and is delivered within the defined schedule and cost constraints.

You must be a master professional, using good knowledge, skills and abilities with technology, automation tools and programming languages, to design and develop test suites, test software and the associated documentation, and assure quality of solutions which sustain the rapidly growing needs of a diverse customer population including other development teams. It is essential that you stay current with relevant industry quality practices, technologies, and strategies. Also, you will be successful as you stay abreast of the organization's software architecture, customer requirements, and software development practices.

You will work on tasks and assignments from a Team Lead but must be self-motivated. The QA Engineer is able to work with minimal supervision, and must utilize his or her experience, understanding of professional concepts, and knowledge of Church policy and procedures to exercise judgment and creativity in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria in order to automate and test the solutions. The QA Engineer assures quality deliverables according to the established standards and conventions.

The QA Engineer will provide guidance and expertise in implementing effective test technologies and quality strategies to the organization's engineers. This position may oversee the QA needs of development teams with a hands-on approach and promote effective trainings for other QA Engineers.


  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience

Work Experience:

  • 10 years of progressive and relevant professional experience
  • 5 years of core QA work experience

Required Skills:

  • Must have ability to develop automated test suites using tools, which require them to do some development including SoapUI, Groovy, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, etc.
  • Must have REST Web Service testing experience.
  • Good understanding of JSON, XML and XPATH
  • Must have experience testing enterprise-level software.
  • Must have good understanding of the various approaches for testing code and web services.
  • Load and performance testing and security testing experience are required.
  • Web application testing experience is also desired.
  • Track record of isolating difficult issues at the subsystem or project level
  • Experience with Tomcat and Cloud environments needed.
Bonus Skills:
  • SOAP experience is a plus.
  • Experience testing frameworks or similar public API work preferred.
