Job Description:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design of the project assigned. Specifically, this position will utilize expert knowledge and skills in the engineering and design of HVAC plumbing projects. Projects assigned to the Senior Mechanical Engineer are generally larger and more complex in nature. This position is responsible for identifying and providing solutions to complex mechanical design problems. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will initiate conceptual designs subject to the review and approval of the Mechanical Engineer Team Lead, Engineering Manager, and Preconstruction Manager.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all aspects of the mechanical design of the project assigned
- Organize the design and engineering effort required for assigned projects
- Report to the team lead mechanical engineer regarding scheduling requirements
- Direct and accept responsibility for the work of designers and engineers assigned to the project
- Make adjustments to drawings, calculations, and specifications as required by the team lead mechanical engineer
- Must be familiar with the project's scope of work, engineering, and construction budget
- Assist in developing and maintaining design and engineering standards
- Utilize knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and other physical sciences to complete the drawings with a minimum of supervision.
- Inform the team lead mechanical engineer of project scope and budget changes; monitor project milestones to assure project quality and adherence to the project budget
- Perform site surveys and equipment assessments; site visits may require overnight travel
- Provide project engineering coordination during construction operations as assigned
- Serve in a support role on projects as directed by the team lead mechanical engineer
- Support the commissioning team with all aspects of commissioning services
- Develop accurate preliminary design solutions for prospective complex projects within an expedited timeframe
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with customers throughout the course of a project
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of this role
Required Skills:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of seven (7) years' mechanical, or HVAC engineering experience with a professional engineering firm, automation contractor, or mechanical contractor engaged in MEP related or similar work desired.
- Professional Mechanical Engineer's license is a plus, but not required
- Willingness to travel to worksites, up to 25%
- Driver's license and reliable transportation
- Strong understanding of mechanical, controls, electrical and construction means, and methods associated with the renovation of commercial and institutional buildings and/or similar facilities
- Proficient user of Microsoft office suite; highly proficient use of Excel and other software used in the construction industry
- Basic understanding of AutoCAD/Revit Design software
- Excellent mathematic skills in order to perform the duties of this role, review or prepare budgets and other job-related documents, and to effectively perform the role of a mechanical engineer
- Strong communication skills (oral and written); must be able to effectively relay information to various audience groups, including, but not customers and perspective customers, managers, leadership, colleagues, and business associates; must be able to prepare professional written communications (emails, documents, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with individuals internal and external to the company and from various backgrounds
- Highly collaborative and focused on sharing details routinely and consistently with team members
- Self-managing, able to work autonomously when necessary and effectively integrate with project teammates to meet deadlines and expectations
