Director, Development
This position requires a highly motivated and results-oriented individual to lead fundraising efforts for a non-profit. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, "in-the-weeds" professional with a proven track record of success in securing major gifts and cultivating donor relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundraising: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual revenue goals (anticipated to be within the range of $3-5 million). This includes engaging major donors, corporations, foundations, influencers, and celebrities; building out the BloomingJustice campaign and developing a growth campaign to raise over $1 million*; and elevating Volunteer Engagement opportunities to make it more turnkey and raising money from corporations and businesses.
- Donor Cultivation: Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Organizational Engagement: Actively engage with key stakeholders, including board members, staff, and volunteers, in fundraising initiatives. This also includes strengthening the organization's infrastructure across departments to evolve program outcomes and elevating the team to being enthusiastic ambassadors.
- Communications and Visibility: Conduct media interviews and participate in conversations to help increase CPNYC's visibility with new audiences; develop video storytelling content for the agency that utilizes scholars, families, and staff; and contribute to thought leadership work—high level—digital platform strategy, writing blogs, media engagement, participating on panels, etc.
- Organizational Development: Building the Board of Directors and developing a strategic planning process for the agency and creating a Theory of Change; program development, metrics, and data evaluation work to grow programs and impact; helping with the recruitment of staff and helping to improve retention and culture; and trauma-informed work.
- Program Expansion: Working to expand virtual mental health services in partnerships with organizations in different parts of NYC; expanding the YouthAction program and engaging the community as partners; and working with the team to build an Alumni Program.
- Community Partnerships: Creating community partnership opportunities.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven Fundraising Success: Demonstrated success in securing major gifts and managing a high-performing fundraising team.
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Ability to develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan with measurable objectives and key performance indicators.
- Donor Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships effectively.
- Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a junior team, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
- Initiative & Drive: Highly motivated and results-oriented with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to travel to various locations for meetings and events.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports (weekly minimum).
- Salesforce Experience: Preferred, but not required.

- Hands-on Approach: Comfortable working directly with donors and performing fundraising activities alongside team members.
- Collaborative Spirit: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
- Leadership from the Front: A proactive and inspiring leader who sets a positive example for the team.
- Location: 3 days per week onsite in Brooklyn, 1 day onsite per week in the Bronx
- Schedule: 30-40 hours per week, 11 am-6 pm Schedule - 1-hour lunch.
- Reporting: Regular meetings with the CEO (2-3 times per week).
