Director, Development
This position requires a highly motivated and results-oriented individual to lead fundraising efforts for a non profit . The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, "in-the-weeds " professional with a proven track record of success in securing major gifts and cultivating donor relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fundraising: Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve annual revenue goals (anticipated to be within the range of $3-5 million).
- Donor Cultivation: Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Organizational Engagement: Actively engage with key stakeholders, including board members, staff, and volunteers, in fundraising initiatives.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Proven Fundraising Success: Demonstrated success in securing major gifts and managing a high-performing fundraising team.
- Strategic Planning & Execution: Ability to develop and execute a strategic fundraising plan with measurable objectives and key performance indicators.
- Donor Relationship Management: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships effectively.
- Team Leadership: Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a junior team, fostering a supportive and productive work environment.
- Initiative & Drive: Highly motivated and results-oriented with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to travel to various locations for meetings and events.
- Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports (weekly minimum).
- Salesforce Experience: Preferred, but not required.
Preferred Characteristics:
- Hands-on Approach: Comfortable working directly with donors and performing fundraising activities alongside team members.
- Collaborative Spirit: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments.
- Leadership from the Front: A proactive and inspiring leader who sets a positive example for the team.
Work Requirements:
- Location: Brooklyn-based with occasional travel to the Bronx (approximately once per month).
- Schedule: 30 hours per week, typically 3 days per week onsite.
- 11am-6pm Schedule - 1 hour lunch
- Reporting: Regular meetings with the CEO (2-3 times per week).
Note: This position requires a high level of multitasking, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
