Structural Engineer
Job Title: Structural Engineer (Lead or Manager)
Location: Sandy, UT (Onsite Position)
Shift: Monday to Friday
Duration: Contract to Direct Hire
Pay Rate: $60.00 - $68.00 Hour W2
Summary:
We are now looking for a Structural Engineering Manager who must be a PE and must be able to lead a structural team. They would help lead, work with clients, teach, train and help grow the department though client interactions. Candidates need to know structural heavy industry. Foundations, supports, Other industry are OK, but cannot be just commercial, or just buildings.
- Responsible for the design of steel structures including platforms, single and multi-story buildings and equipment supports; concrete structures including slab on grade, spread footing foundations, mat foundations, pier foundations deep foundations retaining walls etc.; site grading including cut and fills, site drainage, retention ponds, evaporation ponds etc.
- Selects, recommends, and prepares preliminary designs.
- Works with mechanical engineering to determine equipment size, weights and locations as related to equipment support.
- Create sketches for foundations, steel structures and retain walls suitable for drafting by less experienced personnel.
- Develop accurate calculations.
- Gathers information, makes studies, and prepares original rough PFD sketches to present with the design proposal
- Requires occasional single or multiple day site visits to gather information etc. Extended on-site assignments are occasionally required.
- Participates in inter-discipline checks of project specifications and drawings.
- Interface with client on project civil/structural issues.
Department Related
- Build the civil/structural engineering department through client interactions
- Hire and retain civil/structural engineers, designers, and drafters for a functional civil/ structural engineering department for both mineral and hydrocarbon business sectors
- Recommend computer programs for the civil/structural department to provide timely designs
- Prepare project Scope of Work for project proposals
- Manage projects within structural department
- Provide a detailed Cost Estimate for the proposals based upon the Scope of Work
- Assist in marketing/sales with client visits
- Must be willing to train/mentor less experienced staff
- Review current backlog and potential backlog to determine continuity of staff support for timely project execution
- Review and recommend process simulation software for departmental use
- Train engineering staff on process design issues, company procedures and company supplied software
- Participate in weekly management meetings
- Perform quarterly employee reviews
Qualifications and experience required:
- 15+ years' experience in civil/structural design of industrial processes facilities.
- Baccalaureate in civil engineering required structural emphasis needed.
- Candidate shall have a track of increasing responsibility. Prior management a plus.
- PE License required
- Must have demonstrated experience preparing accurate hour estimates for projects and preparing and maintaining schedules
- Must have demonstrated experience leading design groups both in the office and in the field
- Prior consulting engineering experience
- Experience using STADD and other Bentley products a plus or similar software
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
