$150,000-$170,000



Position Summary:

The Senior Firmware Engineer will develop, analyze, and troubleshoot embedded FPGA designs for motor controllers in the 100W to 50kW range, serving Space, Defense, Energy, and Thermal Management applications. Responsibilities include creating new designs, enhancing existing ones, and supporting manufacturing and sustaining engineering efforts.

 





Key Responsibilities:

 
  • Collaborate with department leads to ensure designs meet technical, schedule, and budgetary requirements.
  • Translate customer requirements into system definitions and firmware solutions.
  • Develop and document firmware designs, ensuring alignment with project specifications.
  • Lead firmware-related content in cross-functional design reviews.
  • Define firmware integration and test plans and specify test hardware.
  • Conduct design, assembly, and product testing, preparing detailed results and conclusions.
  • Resolve technical challenges across legacy, active, and emerging product designs.
  • Analyze and recommend design approaches for long-term business success.
  • Mentor and support team members while troubleshooting and optimizing systems.


Qualifications:



 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of experience developing complex products with multiple subsystems.
  • Proven ability to develop firmware for embedded controllers, from concept to production.
  • Strong skills in electronics, rotating machine control algorithms, and VHDL coding.
  • Familiarity with FPGA toolsets (Vivado, Libero, Quartus, Diamond).
  • Proficiency in MATLAB Simulink with 5+ years of experience building models.
  • Strong debugging skills for FPGA hardware in lab environments.
  • Expertise in SPI, PCIe, RS422, CAN, ARINC, I2C, CRCs, and JTAG protocols.
  • Experience with Xilinx, Microsemi, and Lattice FPGA devices.
  • Knowledge of safety-critical systems, motor controls, and switching power supplies.
  • FPGA design for safety-critical systems (DO254, MIL-STD 882).
  • Experience in aerospace/defense FPGA applications.
  • Familiarity with ARP4754, ARP4761, and FMECA processes.
  • Expertise in tools like Polarion, Jama, or Doors for requirements management.
  • Ability to design reusable FPGA functions for vendor-specific implementations.
