Job Description

Title: Data Center Technician
Location: Secaucus, NJ
Duration: 3 Months +

Summary: The main function of a Database Administrator is to provide database support on a variety of hardware and software platforms and peripherals.

Mus Have:

  • 1-3 years' experience
  • Straight forward Technician role
  • Need to have worked in a data center before (production data center)
  • Need to be able to lift hardware (60 pounds)
  • Need to pass a background check


  • Hours are 7am-3pm (or 4 pm depending on if they take lunch)
  • Their role is to basically travel around the datacenter and pick up any issues and report them to get them fixed

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain and administer data center physical plant and cabling, including replacing hard drives, memory dims, power supplies, and network interface cards
  • Support new infrastructure build-outs, and daily MAC work.
  • Troubleshoot physical layer issues.
  • Coordinate vendor on-site service, repair, and return for malfunctioning equipment.
  • Manage daily tape backups and offsite.
  • Solid understanding of change controls, service windows, etc.
  • Provide on-site database and system support
  • Monitor, collect statistical information, and provide reporting on capacity and system performance
  • Based on statistics, make recommendations to maintain and improve capacity and system performance
  • Monitor the system, and act upon system and application automated alerts
  • Perform diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting of software, o/s, and database issues (ex. correcting installation, configuration, or data problems)
  • Plan and perform software installation, configuration, upgrade and patching
  • Plan and perform database configuration, maintenance, upgrade and patching
  • Perform and manage system and database backups
  • Perform manual switch to redundant system / database components, in case of system failure

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Past experience working in a production data center.
  • Knowledge of storage and network physical topologies.
  • Understanding of common operational practices like metrics reporting, change management, incident management, problem management and communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Should be well organized, thorough, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in a live data center
  • Occasional lifting of up to 60 lbs. will be required.
  • Occasional travel and extended hours may be required.
  • On-call duties (on a rotational basis) may be required.
