Job Description

Title:  Production Support Developer/Analyst (Java)
Location:  Hoboken, NJ
Duration:  6+ months with a probable extendion

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Product Support/Level 2 role consists of monitoring application alerts, escalating production issues, maintaining issue logs and providing operational support to production applications. The role will also coordinate with development teams, analyze root cause, analyze complex SQL queries and large data sets, and working with various groups to on-board different types of spatial and non-spatial data within multiple applications.
 
Responsibilities
  • First point of contact for diagnosing and resolving new and ongoing applications issues.
  • Interacting with users to document, respond and remedy newly identified application issues. 
  • Working with developers to reproduce the issues, communicate findings and possibly assist in making code changes.
Required Skills (In priority Order)
  • Strong in writing and analyzing complex SQL scripts
  • Ability to analyze logs and large data sets, alerts , developing SQL scripts to identify the issues and correct data
  • Strong experience in  Java-J2EE
  • Ability to coordinate with multiple teams during support process
  • Able to understand and manage automated Jenkin build configuration based deployment and make script changes as needed
  • Strong experience on Windows OS & satisfactory experience on Unix
  • Knowledge in Splunk, PostGreSQL is a strong plus
  • Experience with GIS queries or other related GIS products is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of ESRI products is a plus
  • Knowledge of JavaScript, Dojo or other JavaScript frameworks is a plus
  Qualifications and Education/Experience Requirements
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or similar technical subject
  • Candidates with other backgrounds will be considered, as long as they can prove their expertise
  • 3 – 5 years industry experience; previous experience in Production Support roles.
  • Knowledge of required languages (above) is a must; Knowledge of other programming languages is a plus, but is not required.
  • Knowledge of web development fundamentals, HTTP, CSS, JavaScript, is helpful
  • Must be comfortable working in a Windows environment.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Provable ability to solve technical problems and communicate clearly (candidates may be asked to deliver a 15 minute presentation on a topic of their choosing followed by a Q&A from the team)
  • Excellent writing skills and documentation discipline (samples of brief technical articles/papers may be submitted for the interview, if available)
  • Scientific curiosity and eagerness to learn about the application of science in insurance
  • Interest/experience in sysadmin, devops, monitoring. and relational databases, all a plus
Additional Qualifications
  • MUST be organized and have a strong ability to focus on and pay strict attention to detail.
  • Strong analytic skills for constant review of complex code, data, and scientific information.
  • Thorough knowledge of insurance/reinsurance concepts.
  • Thorough knowledge of programming concepts.
  • Solid ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills for internal communications
  • High degree of initiative to take lead role one their own and within team and to manage work to completion.
  • Ability to find creative solutions to new problems as they arise.
  • Strong ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work with the team in manager's absence without direction.
  Minimum Years of Experience 3 – 5 as a Production Support Developer Minimum of Education Bachelor's degree (required), Masters (preferred) in MIS/Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (required).
