Senior Upstream Manager
El Segundo, CA
Direct Hire
Pay: DOE

The successful candidate will manage scale-e up and manufacture of cell culture manufacturing process to produce early phase and mid-stage clinical trial material.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively support initial facility design, equipment qualification, startup and operation in cell culture area.
  • The individual will work with engineering firm for cell culture bioreactor manufacturing plant design, and for material/ instrument planning crucial for initial-bioreactor operation.
  • Provide oversight of cGMP cell culture manufacturing operations and verify procedural and safety compliance; arrange work assignments and required support to meet cell culture and bioreactor weekday and weekend schedules and resolve conflicts.
  • Manage all aspects of upstream mammalian cell culture operations,
  • Create and review documents including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), batch records and product/process specific recommending operating parameters (ROP) in upstream cell culture areas.
  • Review executed BRs and serving as area supervisor for the review and approval of investigations and corrective actions.
  • Support and contribute process improvement during scale-up of single use bioreactors (200L/SOOL) and validation.
  • Lead/support scientific excellence and state-of-the-art large-scale cell culture manufacturing technology and ensures that the company is using the best of the latest process validation approaches. -
  • Managing staff by setting objectives, creating development plans and completing performance reviews.
  • Serving as a key interface with supporting groups such as Process Sciences, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Supply Chain, etc.

    Educational/ Professional Work Experience Requirements
  • Advanced degree in Science with at least 6 years, or BS with more than 8 years in development and manufacturing of biologics
  • Prior hands-on experience is preferred for bio reactor systems (Sartorius Biostat/ DCU, Eppendorf/New Brunswick, Applikon, Delta V, Wonderware, MFCS, Finesse).
  • Experience with scalable mammalian (CHO) cell culture processes for production of Fe-fusion proteins and antibodies
  • Experience in clinical and/or commercial-scale production operations subject to c:CMP
  • Previous supervisory experience is required with a minimum of 5 years.
  • Hands-on experience with disposable/ single use technology is essential.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and verbal.
